Derek Karl Jones, 59, returned to his Heavenly Father after a brief but valiant battle with cancer on May 27, 2022, at his home in Hooper, Utah. He was born June 27, 1962, to Karl Clayton Jones, and Sandra Fisher in Provo, Utah.
Derek graduated from Roy High School class of 1980 and attended Weber State University. He married Cheryl Rae Widdison for time and all eternity on December 9, 1983, in the Ogden Utah Temple, and together they had two daughters, Staci Rasmussen and Kelsi Wilde.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in the Connecticut, Hartford Mission. He served in many auxiliaries of the church and proudly earned his Eagle Scout award at the age of 14. He loved the Lord and had a strong testimony of the gospel. He had many interests and was very talented. Some of his hobbies include: hunting, fishing, photography, music, painting, biking and wood working. He truly lived his bucket list.
He retired from the Roy Post Office after 30 years of service to his community. He was a hard worker both with his career and in every project he endeavored.
Derek is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his daughters, Staci (Clint) Rasmussen and Kelsi (Josh) Wilde, and his mother, Sandra Jones. His grandchildren: Liam, Hallie, Max, Henry, Luke, Declan, and Indie. Siblings: Gina (Dee) Harris, Sherry (Doug) Miller, Kerry (Steve) Hansen, Kelly (Brian) Bingham, Randy (Andrea) Jones, and sister-in-law, Teresa BlueEyes. He was preceded in death by his father, K.C. Jones, and his brother, Willard BlueEyes.
