Deputy Chief (Retired) D. Wayne Jones David Wayne Jones, 70, of Grantville passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center. Wayne was born on May 29, 1950 in Newnan to the late Dock Oliver Jones & Myrtle Boswell Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Susan Schofield, Pat Jones, and Tim Jones. Wayne grew up in Coweta County and attended Newnan High School, Class of 1968. He was drafted and proudly served his country in the United States Army and served as a military police officer in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Wayne moved back to Newnan where he found his life’s calling with the Newnan Police Department. He served in numerous positions with the police department for 44 years, retiring in December 2017 as Deputy Chief. Wayne’s favorite pastimes were gardening, farming, reading, hunting, fishing, coaching his children’s ballgames, camping, visiting the river and most importantly, spending time with family.
