Denzil Gerald (Zip) Turner

Denzil Gerald (Zip) Turner, 87, of Kingwood died at his home on Saturday November 7, 2015, with family by his side.

He was born on October 2, 1928, in Masontown, a son of the late Ira and Mary Sheets Turner. He was also preceeded in death by his wife, Ruby Albright Turner, ten brothers and sisters and was the last survivor of his immediate family.

At a young age Denzil began working at the Kingwood Baking Company and later followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a coal miner for over 40 years and the owner of his own mine for 22 years. He served as a councilman for three terms and was Mayor of the City of Kingwood for one term. He was a member of the Eagles # 2391 in Kingwood and held the office of State President from 1974-1975.

He is survived by his son and spouse, Larry and Carolyn Turner of Kingwood; four grandchildren, Larry Turner II and companion, Jenny, Woodrow (Buddy) Turner and wife, Tina, Denzil Slade Turner and wife, Mindy, and Lance Turner and wife, Leah; eight great grandchildren, Alana, Nikayla and Talia Goodwin, Cole and Ava Turner, Jeremy Summers and Jade Turner, and Lijah Turner.

The family wants to thank Liz and PCG and Nurse Jean and staff from Hospice Care Corporation. Special thanks to the staff of PRO PT especially to Shanda and Deana for all of their care and concern shown to Zip during his therapy.
