It is with extreme sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dennis Jay O’Connor of Highland Beach Florida on April 10, 2020. Dennis was 78 years young and lived a fulfilling life. Dennis was predeceased by his daughter Laura Ann (Lauri) in 1981 and is survived by his wife, Katherine Giordano, son David, step-son Anthony, and grandchildren Shayne, Jayme, Devon, and Victoria. He is also survived by his ex-wife Trudy as well as many more family members and friends.
Dennis was born on April 8, 1942 to Mary and Thomas O’Connor of Washington Heights, NYC and was the youngest of his brothers, Thomas and Jack. At age 17, Dennis joined the US Navy and served aboard the destroyer, USS Collett, and found himself in the Far East patrolling the seas of Japan and the Philippines.
After the Navy, Dennis went on to become a NYC Local #2 union plumber where he worked all over NYC until his retirement in 2003. After which he traded the NY/NJ winters for the warm palm-tree lined streets of southern Florida.
Dennis was a strong yet quiet man with a quick-witted sense of humor. He always had a joke or a story to tell and his good-natured manner made it easy for him to make friends wherever he went.
More than anything, Dennis loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He was loved by all. He will truly be missed.
While his death is tragic for us, there is solace in knowing he is now with his beloved daughter Lauri, his parents Mary and Thomas, and his brothers Tommy and Jack assuredly making up for their time lost here on Earth.
