Denise M. Jones (nee Firkey) of Silver Ridge Park West section of Berkeley Twp., NJ, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 after being diagnosed in March with a brain tumor. Born in Miami, FL, Denise lived in Cedar Grove, NJ before moving to Berkeley Twp. in 2003.
Mrs. Jones worked in insurance for most of her life and retired from Geisenheimer Insurance in Fairlawn, NJ, where she worked for 15 years as a personal lines underwriter. Denise was a life member of the U.S. Power Squadrons for Liberty Harbor Power Squadron, where she attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She also served as a Bridge Officer. In addition, she was the District 4 council meetings Co-Chair. She greatly enjoyed retirement by going on daily walks at the mall, having coffee with friends, mah-jongg and singing in the choir at St. Joseph’s Church in Toms River, where she was also a communicant. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends on day trips and annual cruises.
Denise had a nice and friendly way about herself. She was a great listener and friend. She made a friend to anyone in her life, the bankers, travel agents, choir members and neighbors. Denise’s youthful spirit will have a lasting memory in the hearts of all her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Joel Jones. She is also survived by her cousins Betty Ann Uhlmann and her husband Al of Wayne, NJ & their children and grandchildren and Eugene Rogers Sr. of Little Silver, NJ & his children and grandchildren. She will be sincerely missed by her many friends and family.
