Denise F. Backofen, 66, longtime Newington resident, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at home after a courageous battle with cancer, in the loving arms of her husband of 38 years, Bruce. Denise, for many years, was a nurse at St. Francis Hospital and later shifted to a successful career as an IT consultant. She was the rare breed of, not only being incredibly bright, but also amazingly creative. She was an excellent knitter, painter, sewer, and quilter among other crafts. When she wasn’t working on a project, she took the time to learn to ride horses, become a certified scuba diver, and ride motorcycles. Denise will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Bruce; her mother, Constance Swaney; her son Matt Ramos and his wife Beth and their three daughters, Lynzee, Kora and Jillian: her son Douglas Ramos and his wife Ingrid and their son Peter; her brothers Ray and Mike Frappier, their families, her sister Renee Koehler and her husband Chuck, as well as several devoted members of family and friends, including Judith Perodeau, who was an immeasurable help in Denise’s final days. Denise was predeceased by her father, Joseph Frappier.
