Denise C. Shettle, 42, Bloomington, passed away unexpectedly May 27, 2012 at IU Health Hospital-Bloomington. She was born March 7, 1970 in Anderson, Indiana, and spent most of her young life in Anderson and had spent the last 5 years in Bloomington. She graduated from Anderson High School with honors in 1988 and Earlham College in 1992, where she was known as Chaka. Denise taught English as a second language in Osaka, Japan for ten years, the last six years were at Kansai Gaidai University.

She earned two Master’s Degrees during this time. She was now working on her Ed.D Literacy, Culture, and Language Education Department at Indiana University where she was teaching full time as a Master Teacher in the Intensive English Program. She traveled around the world four times, once with her father.

People across the world knew Denise. She was a world traveler, generous friend, fabulous cook, intelligent scholar, and an accomplished woman. She will be dearly missed as a loving aunt, a younger sister, and a thoughtful, selfless daughter. The content of her character is sought by those who knew her.

She lived a full life, put others first, and forgave others. Denise witnessed and partook in opportunities seldom afforded, but was able to find the greatest pleasure in the most simple things. Denise balanced life while standing at the helm.

She is survived by her parents, Kent & Sue Kennedy Shettle of Anderson; sister, Mary-Pat Shettle Goble of Knightstown; and niece and nephews, Jacob Goble, Liam Goble and Hazel Goble. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Madge M. Kennedy, Lowell E. Kennedy, and Roy “Butch” and Gladys Shettle.
