Denis P. Duggan, 95, of Redding, previously of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Eileen A. Duggan.

Mr. Duggan was born on October 11, 1926 in Woodside, NY; a son of the late Jeremiah and Anna (Burke) Duggan. He was the elder brother to his late sister and brother, Nancy and Jerry.

Denis attended Saint Sebastian School and Bishop Loughlin High School. While at Loughlin, he excelled at track and was a champion at both the Millrose Games and Penn Relays setting a national record as the final leg with his 4X800 relay team. He was named to the school’s Hall of Fame in 2009.

After high school Mr. Duggan served in the United States Navy. Upon discharge he entered Manhattan College and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and subsequently earned a MBA from the Newark College of Engineering.

A member of Saint Mary’s Parish for over 45 years, he was a lector, a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Parish Advisory Council. While at Meadow Ridge he looked forward to each Sunday when he celebrated the Liturgy with Father LeJacq and his Catholic community.

Denis was a man of many diverse interests, which he pursued with great energy. He loved to play golf and joined various men’s groups. He was proud to retell the stories of his five holes in one. He revived his running career becoming a founding member of the Wolfpit Running Club. Surprising himself and others, he completed his first marathon at age 50. From there he went on to finish a dozen others, including his two favorites the Marine Corp Marathon and the Dublin Marathon. More importantly, he made lifelong friends who remain family to him. In his later years at Meadow Ridge he resumed his passion for bridge. It was a game he played to his final day, enjoying close friendships with many partners.

First and foremost Denis was a family man. He married his one and only love, Eileen Allen, on September 8, 1951. Together they built a life and raised their six children. He is survived by their children Denis Duggan and his wife, Nancy; Kathleen Seergy and her husband, Michael; John Duggan and his wife, Jane; Maureen McVeigh and her husband, Owen; Deirdre Renehan and her husband, Steven and Eileen Pash and her husband, Joseph. In addition, Mr. Duggan is survived by 17 grandchildren: Monica, Meredith, Erin, Katie, Madeline, Tim, Meghan, Patrick, Maggie, Brendan, Anna, Mary Kate, Kristen, Maura, Kevin, Will, and Dan, as well as 18 great grandchildren.

Denis was always a gentleman who loved his family and friends deeply. All who knew him, recognized his calm, patient and thoughtful nature. He was quietly outgoing, quick to laugh and immensely loyal.
