On April 7, the pipes called Denis Troy back home to Kilkee. He entrusts the memories of a life lived with dignity, fortitude and good humor to the loving hearts of his family, who will cherish and nurture his presence for generations to come, so that even those too young to remember, will never forget what a great man he was. Denis was born in County Clare, Ireland December 6, 1928, son of the late Patrick and Katherine (McDonnell) Troy. Denis grew up on a farm and as a result, he felt a strong connection to the land. He migrated to the United States in 1961 and lived with his sister Mary and her husband Martin, who welcomed him into their home. Denis found a job at US Motors the first week he arrived in the United States and worked there for the next 35 years until he retired.
Denis was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was married for 41 years to his beloved wife, Barbara. He was immensely proud of his son, Patrick. He had a special bond with Patrick’s lovely wife Christina, who was like a daughter to him. His grandchildren Denis and Valerie were the brightest lights in his life. His passions during his life reflected his upbringing. A Christmas gift of golf clubs given to him over 40 years ago began his lifelong love of the game. It appealed to Denis’ love of being outdoors in the companionship of others, devoted to a game of principles and courtesy. Denis spent many happy hours on the golf course. Denis was also an avid and talented gardener. He joined the City of Milford’s organic gardening program and there he found a community of kindred spirits. Denis formed friendships that lasted for many years and gave him a deep sense of satisfaction and joy. Whether you were with him for a few minutes or a few hours, Denis always made those around him feel special. He was genuinely interested in and attentive to others, while never seeking the spotlight himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and it was impossible to spend any amount of time with him without laughing.
Denis is survived by his wife, Barbara. He also leaves his son, Patrick and his wife Christina, along with his grandchildren, Denis and Valerie.
