Delwin “Del” Charles Jones died January 2, 2008 at a local care center of natural causes.

Del was born to Lillian and Charles Jones on December 30, 1918

at Weiser, Idaho. He lived on the farm at Mann Creek until he graduated from High School. He didn’t care for farming and was determined to finish his education and graduated in the Class of 1936. He continued to educate himself with classes on bookkeeping, computers and other interests.

 

Del married Joyce Gibbons July 2, 1939. Del was a bookkeeper and worked for the Co-op Oil in Weiser then moved to Ellensburg, WA. They also lived in Port Townsend, WA. Payette, ID; and finally settled in Caldwell, ID. in 1946.

 

He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and was stationed in Florida.  He was proud of his achievement of Expert Marksman (the only one of his unit to do so). He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a drill instructor at Drew Field in Florida.

 

Del & Joyce had a daughter in 1943 and she did not appreciate her dad’s drill instructor voice when she got in trouble.

 

Christian) since 1947.  He helped with the books, was a deacon, an elder and was on the finance committee at the time of he death. His honesty, integrity and love of Christ were very important in his life and he set a wonderful example for everyone.

 

Dad worked for the Co-op, Idaho Egg Producers (Ida-Best, Cenex) and was office manager of Ida-Best for 20 years.

He “retired” in 1982, but continued to do books for various people and played a lot of golf.  He received his 20 year plaque from H & R Block this past spring.

 

Dad had lots of fun snowmobiling, building their cabin on West Mountain (he also built their home) and golfing with friends and family.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 68 years, his daughter Joy (Jones) Rife and son-in-law Dee, 2 sisters, Teresa Hust of Weiser, Emma Jean Hayes of Salem, OR;

two grandchildren, Kelly (Eric) Daylong of Snohomish, WA. and Holly (Mark) Kaufman of Meridian, ID. Four great-grandchildren, Amanda Daylong of Bellevue, WA., Jacob Daylong of Snohomish, WA., Olivia and Elle Kaufman of Meridian; One great-great-grandchild, Kelan Robert of Bellevue, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and 1 sister, Leola Lattimore, of Weiser, ID.
