Delores (Dee) Konow (age 86) passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at her home in the care of her family. Dee was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Christ Lee Konow; a sister, Betty Gall; a brother, Kenneth Moore; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Bayer; and brother-in-law, James Benner.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Bowdish; sister-in-law, Judith Benner; sister-in-law, Shirley Proudfoot; daughter, Gerene (Gerry) Starratt and husband, Kit Starratt; son, Christ Jeffrey Konow and wife, Jonna Konow; as well as eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Dee was actively engaged in her community. Living in Dolton, Illinois, during the early years of her marriage, she was active in the local Junior Women’s Club, where she often visited inpatients with Judith as the clown team “Pete and RePete”. Following their move to Fort Pierce in 1967 and for the rest of her life, Dee was active–often holding leadership positions–in organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Development Committee, Fort Pierce Elks, Lawnwood Hospital Stephen Ministry, and her Tall Pines Community. As the spouse of a veteran, she was a strong supporter of veteran programs, such as Honor Flight.

She was a lector and Eucharistic Minister in her parish. A true lover of music, Dee also performed for years with the Sweet Adelines and sang in her parish choirs. Before moving to Florida, she worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, District 148 school system in Chicago, and Illinois Bell. During their early years in Fort Pierce, Dee and Chris owned Seaside Apartments on Hutchinson Island. Later she was self-employed as a bookkeeper.
