Delmar Lawrence McDonald, 85, of Cairo, died Monday morning, August 8, 2016, at his home. He had been in failing health. Delmar was born November 15, 1930, in Westervelt, IL, to Harry and Norma (Baker) McDonald.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime farmer and owned and operated Hayden and McDonald Seed Company, and was a member of the Cairo-Jacksonville Christian Church.
Delmar married June Schnute on November 27, 1954 in Pana, IL, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Larry McDonald of Cairo, Phil McDonald of Jacksonville, Pat Agnew and husband Bill of Fayette, Donny McDonald of Jacksonville, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with one due in September, sisters, Ilene Whitlatch and husband Lester, Irene Schmitz and husband Clarence, Mildred Reed and husband Al Murdock, Ruby Hamilton and husband Dick; nieces, nephews, sister’s-in-law Shirley McDonald, Dorothy McDonald, Mary Jo McDonald, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Lyle, Marion, and Marvin McDonald, and a grandson Waylon McDonald.
