Dellet George Allen, age 88, a long-time resident of Liberty Addition, Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility following an extended illness. He was born September 15, 1927 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Dellet George Allen, Sr. and Madge Lucy (Post) Allen.
George, as he was known to friends and family, is survived by 4 children, Colleen (Mrs. David) McCartney, Mark (Beth) Allen, Dwight (Terri) Allen, and Ruth Cathleen Garrett; six grandsons, David McCartney, Jason, Adam, Logan, and Eric Allen, and Zachary Garrett; one granddaughter, Georgina (Garrett) Aye; a brother, Gene Allen survives as well as several grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Allen; his youngest son Matthew Allen, and a sister, Emma Lauene Helper.
A 1945 graduate of Victory High School, George was a loyal “Eagle” who seized every opportunity to sing the school Fight Song.in his loud, clear voice. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army-Air Corps in which he served as a Med.-Surg. Technician in Denver. In Biloxi, he served as secretary for the Base Commander and was the undefeated base table-tennis champion. George was employed as an Allstate Insurance agent for 45 years, longer than any other agent in WV, and was well-known to many Clarksburg residents. He was also responsible for establishing Allstate’s presence in Morgantown, Fairmont, and Parkersburg.
As a devout Christian and long-time member of Liberty United Methodist Church, George often transported children to church in the family station wagon. Many adults credit him with making a profound difference in their lives through this act. At various times, he filled many different positions at Liberty- Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, and Trustee to name a few. At the time of his death, Mr. Allen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.
