Della A. (Nichols) Buja, 99, of Leominster, gave up her spirit to the Lord on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Leominster Hospital. She was born in Clinton, MA on September 26, 1914, the daughter of the late Oliver and Sadie(LaBombard) Nichols. She married Andrew Henry Buja on November 5, 1934 and moved to Leominster where she lived until her death.
She is predeceased by her late husband, Andrew Henry Buja on October 5, 1953. She is also predeceased by her three sisters Ethel Mason, Hazel Labbe, Ruth Chouinard, and five brothers Andrew, Alton, Rufus, Raymond, and Ernest Nichols.
Della leaves her children Andrew Buja and his wife Sandra, Linda DeMego and her husband Joseph, Thomas Buja and his wife Donna all of Leominster, and her daughter Patricia Romano and her husband David of Peabody.
Grammy or “Grams” leaves behind her beloved eleven grandchildren Andrew Buja, Melissa Buja, Lisa Thibaudeau, Steve DeMego, all of Leominster, Laura Palino of Wilmington, Karen Pechinski of Andover, David Romano of Danvers, Lori Ann Collins of Chesapeake, VA, Jason Buja of Marston Mills, Michael Buja of Madison, ME, and Kelly Bayne of Sacramento, CA and two step-grandchildren Tracey Cavaco and Rachel King of Fitchburg. “Little Grammy” is also survived by her most treasured 16 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her best friend and sister-in-law Rochelle Buja of Leominster, her niece and godchild Ruth Allen of Fitchburg as well as several nieces and nephews.
Della was employed by the Cluett & Peabody Shirt Co. in Leominster for 25 years until it closed. She then worked for various plastic companies in the area until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Leo’s Parish and the Daughters of Isabella as well as an early pioneer of the Boy Scout Program with her husband Henry. In her later years, she and her sister-in-law Mary Langlois took many trips to Canada, Florida, Pennsylvania, Atlantic City, New York and Foxwoods, and weekly Saturday yard sales.
Della had a contagious winning smile and a big hello for everyone. She always took pride in her appearance. She was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies and crocheted afghans, table cloths, towels which are cherished and still used by her family.
