Delbert L. Bryan, 85, Major, retired US Army died Saturday at Scott and White Hospital. Mr. Bryan was born on April 8th, 1925 to Frank and Ethel Bryan in Sedan, Kansas. On July 2, 1944 he married Ruth Ann Clark in Independence, Kansas and enjoyed 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2007. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton since 1963.

He was preceded in death by a son, Delbert L. Bryan, Jr. Survivors include his daughter, Kay Post of China Spring; a son, William J. “Bill” Bryan of Morgan’s Point Resort; four grandchildren; Stephanie O’Banion of Belton, Jared Bryan of Morgan’s Point Resort, Sid Post of Belton; and Jon Bryan of Morgan’s Point Resort, and one great grandchild, John Post. Delbert enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 and spent most of that time as a fighter pilot instructor until staying with the Army when the Corps became the Air Force. He served with distinction in World War II, the Korean, and Vietnam wars until his retirement in 1963 upon accepting a position at Fort Hood where he again served his country faithfully for many years.

Delbert was recently recognized for his 60th year in the Masonic Lodge. Delbert was an upstanding member of the “Greatest Generation,” and took this responsibility to heart in his care for animals and plants, woodworking, and his talent to craft family treasures. He was blessed to have many friends and especially enjoyed his tennis matches with so many great players throughout the years.

Living a life of dedication to God, country, and family, Delbert was a man of supreme integrity and compassion who never turned from an opportunity to help his fellow man and work for the betterment of all. He concluded each prayer with: “I pray that you protect this nation and our troops, that they may sustain this United States of America on the principles in which they were founded, trust in Thee.
