Deborah Therese’ Samuel-Carter affectionately known as “Rea” was born January 29, 1959 in Columbia, South Carolina. She quietly left this earthly life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lonnie and Ann Samuel, Sr.

Deborah attended the public schools in Richland County, South Carolina; graduating from W.J. Keenan High School in Columbia. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Alvin B. Carter, Sr. on October 16, 1982. This union was blessed with the births of two children.

Deborah Samuel-Carter faithfully served at New Bethel Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Silver and Gold and Hospitality Ministries. Deborah loved people, especially working with the youth. She was always busy and loved arts and crafts. She was a former Girl Scouts Leader.

Those who will cherish fond and precious memories of Deborah are her husband, Alvin Carter, Sr. of Winston-Salem; one loving son, Alvin Carter, Jr.; one loving daughter, Bria Carter both of High Point; one granddaughter, Janeya Rene Carter; one loving sister, Carrie (Cubby) Brown of Annapolis, MD; brother, Lonnie Samuel, Jr. of Columbia, SC; stepbrother, Oscar (Doris) Dupree of Jersey City, NJ; niece, Zakiya Brown of Annapolis, MD; one special cousin Pam Basnight; two special friends Vonda Pabon and Jeanette Cochran; an uncle, a host of aunts, cousins, other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is now resting with the Lord.
