Deborah Elaine Cattin March1, 1955-March 16, 2020
Deborah Cattin was born March1,1955 to William and Delores Schweikert of St. Louis, Missouri. Deborah is survived by her husband, John (Grand Junction), and her brother, William (St. Louis). Settling first in Rifle, Colorado, she began her over forty years of dedication to education of special needs students, alternative students, and adult learners. Deborah taught at Garnet Mesa Elementary (Delta, CO), Bea Underwood elementary (Parachute, CO), Grand Junction High School, R-5 High School (School Without Walls program), Colorado Christian University, Regis University, and Morningside College. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Fontbonne College (St. Louis), master’s degree from Western State College (Gunnison), and Ph. D. from the Union Institute (Cincinnati).
Deborah enjoyed biking, hiking, fly fishing, gardening, and skiing especially in the San Juan Mountains where the Cattins built their dream log home near Ridgway, Colorado. Reflecting on her life and career, Deborah said the Lord guided and led her through every step and that her faith in Christ was the most powerful influence in her life and career. Perhaps her legacy is best demonstrated in the many students and teachers who became lifelong learners as a result of her work. Deborah’s life was one well lived for the Lord.
