Debra “Debi” Dee (Bolton) Howell, 68, of Des Moines, Iowa died Thursday, November 11, 2021, in Des Moines.
Debi was born in Sendai, Japan on December 25th, 1952 to Dana (Agan) Bolton. She was raised by her mother and her Uncle Buster Agan whom she adored. Debi spent her childhood and youth in Des Moines and Pleasant Hill and graduated from East high school. While working at Best Steak House in Des Moines she met her future husband, Steve Howell. While on leave from the Marines, she and Steve were married on November 6th, 1971 at Easton United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Together they had 3 children.
Debi retired from Firestone after 29 years of service. She and Steve were on the Board at Grandview Little League for a few years and together they coached baseball and softball teams for over 20 years.
Debi enjoyed watching her daughter coach and both of her granddaughters play softball. When it became impossible for Debi to sit in the bleachers she watched from her car. It soon became apparent that that was no longer possible, so a video camera was set up on a home plate so that she could watch from home. She would text her comments to anyone who would read them.
Debi was an avid reader of current events and politics. She was also a phenomenal cook always creating amazing dinners. Her recipes always changed as she experimented each time with new ingredients. However, she would always comment that it probably didn’t taste very good. It always tasted amazing!
Debi had an amazing heart and shared her love with all her friends. She was very concerned for her friends when they were having difficulties and would make contact to check on them. To have her as a friend was a joy, a blessing, and an amazing experience.
Those grieving her passing include her husband of 50 years, Steve, their children – Todd (Michele Stowe) Howell, Ryan (Sara) Howell, and Kim (Matt) Havlovic; grandchildren – Haley Howell, Lexi, Brody, Jacob, and Cole Havlovic and her brother Jeff (Glenda) Bolton. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and many friends who loved her very much.
Debi was preceded in death by her mother, Dana, her Uncle Buster, her sister Cindy and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Kelly and Esther Howell.
