Debbie Adams a native of Savannah, GA, was born on February 19th, 1960 to Willie Fred and Bernice Adams. As a military child, Debbie had the opportunity travel the world and spent a significant time period on the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL. During her time in Rantoul she met her childhood best friend Judy Derxison-Burke and remained in close contact for over 45 years up until her transition. In 1977 after her father’s retirement, her family returned to Savannah, GA where she helped operate the Paulsen Street Confectionery (family business). Debbie acclimated quickly to Savannah High and became the captain of the Savannah High Flag team prior to graduating in 1979.

Upon graduating, Debbie enlisted in the Air Force Reserve where she completed Basic Training in Charleston, SC and spent her two-week Deployment in Germany.  While serving in the Reserves, she went on to obtain her associates degree in administrative studies from Draughon’s Junior College. During her time back home, she resided at the most talked about house on Vine Street in Savannah, GA where her younger brother Alfred and she were roommates. During this time, Debbie worked as a local deejay for the country radio station WCHY. After Alfred moved out, her youngest brother David Adams moved in; at that point she realized it was time to go and left quietly. This led her to move to Abercorn Street where she met her neighbor Frederick McLeod I in 1984.

In the early 1990’s the couple relocated to Atlanta, GA and in 1995 brought their first brand new house in Riverdale, GA where she resided until her transition.  In June of 1992 Debbie begun working for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia as a trainer for 13 years. The company later became Anthem, Inc. where she held her most recent role of as an Administrative Assistant III for the Accounting Department with her boss Frank. In 2003, Debbie became a faithful member of New Life A.M.E.

Surrounded by her children, Debbie Adams McLeod transitioned peacefully on May 5, 2018 after a long and private battle with cancer. She was warmly greeted at the gates of Heaven by her husband Frederick M. McLeod I, parents Willie and Bernice Adams, and her two loving dogs Brandy and Pebbles, who proceeded her in death.
