Lyle Dean Shipley, the son of Hazel Marie (Hartman) and Henry A. Shipley, was born August 9, 1927 in Smith County, Kansas. He departed this life on Friday, May 4, 2018 following a brief illness at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Dean grew up on the family farm in the Lebanon area and received his formal education attending the Blair Country School north of Lebanon. He was united in marriage with Geraldine P. Holling on December 23, 1946.  This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a daughter, Linda Mae and a son, Dennis Dean.  Dean was a dedicated husband, father and brother. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for twenty years with Werner Construction Company and completed his career with seventeen years working with Gottsch Feedyards at Red Cloud. Both Dean and Geri dedicated years of service working at Red Cloud’s Elm Street Center. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church and served for a number of years as the Chairman of the Red Cloud Housing Board.  In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

​Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Geri, on February 6, 2018; his daughter, Linda Shipley on January 28, 2008; and sisters, Virginia Dupree and Doris Bencken.

​Left to cherish his memory are his son, Dennis Shipley of Red Cloud, Nebraska; brother, Marvin Shipley of Lebanon, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
