Dean was born in Amery, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota. He graduated with degrees of Bachelor of Science and Agricultural Education and was also a graduate of Life Insurance Marketing Institute at Perdue University. Dean taught high school in Elmwood, Wisconsin and was a high school principal. He worked for Farm Bureau in various capacities for 35 years in Wisconsin and then in Colorado as Executive Vice President. He was on the board of directors of Central Bank of Colorado and Farm Credit Bank. He served on the Colorado Expenditures Council, Colorado Health forum, CSU Dean’s Council for Agriculture and was President of Colorado Rural Health Association.
