Dean Roy Foutz, 71, of Boise, ID passed away at his home on April 28, 2013 after a year-long battle with Leukemia. We are grateful to the many doctors and nurses who provided gentle care. He did what was needed to prepare for the next life without complaint for his suffering. Dean will be missed by his family and friends.
Dean was born in Worland, WY on Aug 9, 1941 to F Elmer and Lois Ann Claney Foutz. He grew up in Minot, ND the oldest of four siblings. Dean valued work from an early age, as a paper boy, produce clerk, construction worker and foreman. He attended Brigham Young University, earning a BS in business management, and playing in the marching band. There he met his eternal companion Marilyn Ward. They were married on Sep 13, 1963 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
After college Dean worked for Connecticut Mutual Life as an insurance agent. They soon moved to Honolulu, HI where they lived for 26 years. He became the youngest General Agent in the company, winning numerous awards and accolades; he served on the board of directors for Honolulu Federal Savings and Loan. He founded both the Hawaii BYU Management Society and Cougar Club.
Dean loved to be outdoors, hunting and fishing year round for most of his life, from New Zealand to Canada, Hawaii to the Dakotas.
He loved to be with his 8 children and 30 grandchildren, and made sure they all knew without a doubt that “Papa loves them”. Speaking last Easter Sunday he said, “death is not forever, families are forever. Because of Christ, our family will be together again.”
