Dean was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, but his parents, Merle Dilger and Marie A Youngs, moved to Seattle where he spent most of his childhood and youth. He is survived by his wife Lana Dilger and son Kevin Dilger, as well as nieces Laura, Linda, Tammy, Wendy and his nephew Dale. He was preceded in death by his daughter Natalie Dilger, sisters Dolores, Diane and Dixie, and his parents.

Dean was an avid sports enthusiast. He held an active interest in his son’s early years of growth and was often seen playing baseball with the neighborhood kids. Later, he joined his son in scouting and was scoutmaster of Troop 78 from 1982 – 1998, making many friends along the way.

Dean was a career naval officer, retiring from the military March 1, 1982. Throughout his life, some considered him “a leader among leaders”. He will be most remembered for his stories and wonderful sense of humor. His charm and warmth will be missed.
