Ronald J. Ulmer born July 14, 1929, Deacon of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, and life long resident of Beverly, passed away on Saturday at the age of 78. A graduate of Burlington City HS and Burlington County College with an Associated Degree in Applied Science. Married to the love of his life Olga for 57 years.
Ron was active in many organizations throughout his lifetime. Growing up he was an Altar boy for St. Joseph’s and active in the Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts, Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Councilor, Past Chief and member of the order of the Arrow Honor Camping Society in the Boy Scouts. He was also a member of Beverly Fire Co #1 and Charter Member of the Beverly Emergency Squad. He served his country honorably for four years in the US Navy as a Quartermaster/Signalmaste off North Korea 1951-1955.
He received the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct, Korean Conflict (2 Battle Stars) United Nations Medal, and Koreans Presidential Unit Citation. Most of his career was spent with RCA Laboratories in Princeton, NJ where he was a research technician and served on the RCA Fire Brigade & Safety Committee. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 115 Beverly, Commander of the year 1965 for Burlington County. Former member and chairman of Beverly City Board of Health, member of KofC Resurrection Council in Beverly, past Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and President of Parish Council. He served St. Joseph’s parish as a permanent Deacon to the very end of his life.
Ron will be remembered for his great faith and his great love and will be missed by all who’s hearts he touched and who were truly blessed by knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Alfreda “Olga”(nee:Fortini), daughter and son in law Joanne & Michael Heifet of Beverly, son and daughter in law Fred & Lisa of Beverly, his grandchildren Kristin & Jenna Dreher, Matthew & Leeann Ulmer, Tess Heifet and two great-grandchildren Ja’niah Jones & Wayne North.
