Deacon Percy Lee Buford, born October 30, 1935 to the late Will and Lila Thompson Buford, departed this life October 7, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Memphis Tennessee, and the family later moved to Tanner Alabama, where Deacon Buford accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age, and joined Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to Westside Missionary Baptist Church, Decatur, Alabama, where he served faithfully as Deacon and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday school until he departed this earthly life.
He was also a faithful employee of Alabama Farmer’s cooperative for over 37 years, serving as shipping clerk, and retired due to declining health.
Deacon Buford, was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Marie Baker Buford, four brothers, Otis, Vernice, Willie James, and Lewis Buford; five sisters, Everlena Buford, (toddler), Izerdell Clark, Albennie Davis, Francis Derrick, and Mary Coleman.
He leave to cherish his memory, one sibling, Mother Elizabeth Fletcher, of Tanner, one aunt, Mrs., Beulah Booker of Decatur; seven children, June Buford, Houston Texas, James Baker (Rachel) Decatur, Vickie (Allen) Love, Atlanta, Georgia, Shirley Mayes, Courtland, Perry Buford (Travasa) Tuscaloosa, Rose Buford (Edbert) Jackson, Decatur, Michael Buford, Winchester Tennessee, and Honorary Grandson, Miles Percel Buford, Decatur; 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
