Obituary

Michael Joseph “Jo-Jo” Williams was born October 12, 1957, at Reid Hospital in  Richmond, Ind. to Albert and Alberta Williams; and, departed this life Wednesday, January 13, 2021, in Indianapolis.

Michael moved to Indianapolis after graduating in 1979 to work for the Department of Transportation for the City of Indianapolis, now known as the Department of Public Works (DPW). He spent the next 34 years working for DPW, and he spent more than a decade of his time there as the Chief Financial Officer. During his early years working for the City of Indianapolis, he met his wife Deborah Pryor. The two wed in 1984 and spent the next 36 years together raising their two children, Candace and Brandon. Michael was a proud participant in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, and he spent time on the board of the Marion County Commission On Youth.

Indiana University was close to his heart. He was a proud alumnus and a diehard supporter of their basketball and football teams. Music was also special to him. Parliament-Funkadelic, Earth Wind and Fire, and George Benson were among his favorite musical artists. His interest in how governments functioned in the United States and abroad turned him into an avid reader and watcher of news. Michael was very passionate about his family. He made it his number one priority to be there in support of his wife’s and children’s dreams. He was a pillar of support for Debbie as she organized multiple youth soccer tournaments, progressed through work over the years, and her continuing journey in her faith. His booming voice was ever-present at Candace’s and Brandon’s basketball and soccer games. He pushed the two of them to excel in school more than anything. He was proud to see both of them graduate from college.

After overcoming a stroke in 2012, Michael showed immense strength and courage in the face of adversity to live a fulfilling and prosperous life. Despite the obstacles he faced, he never let his smile fade.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Debbie; his children, Candace and Brandon; his mother Alberta; his brother Tommie(Carrie); mother-in-law Mary Hickman; and, God children Amari and Alaya Mood. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Albert; sister, Patricia Ann; eldest brother, Phillip; and brother, Tim.

Humbly Submitted………………………… Family
