Dawn Michelle Harcum was born on November 21, 1959 in Bethesda, Maryland to the late Francis and Nellie Thomas. Dawn was adopted by the late Atlee and Katherine Onley. Dawn was educated in Montgomery County Public Schools. Dawn graduated from Poolesville High School in 1979. She went on to attend Bowie State University. In 1985, married Brian Harcum and they divorced 19 years later. 

 

At a young age Dawn discovered her passion for caring for other people. Dawn was employed at the Y.M.C.A., as a Pre-K Teacher where she had worked since 2014 until her health began to fail. Throughout the years she has worked in the early childcare field as a Director and pre-K teacher for several years at places such as Little Beavers, Poolesville Daycare center, The Nurtury, We Care Daycare, Bar-T, M.C.P.S., and many more. 

 

Dawn was a staple for the community of Poolesville, MD. All that knew Dawn, knew that she loved to take care of and support her family and community. Dawn was the type of woman to put others first and her door was open 24/7. Dawn in a few words was lovable, loyal, hardworking, passionate, trustworthy and kind-hearted. Her passions and hobbies included attending her Church West Montgomery, singing in the choir, cooking, teaching, doing hair, crafting, and thrifting. Dawn was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She cared deeply for her family, friends, community and neighbors. Many people considered Dawn their surrogate mother.

 

 Dawn leaves to cherish her memories: her three daughters, Tiffany El Mouatacim (Khalid El Mouatacim) , Ashlee Harcum,and Asmaou Kourama, grandson Pharaoh Dove-Harcum, 6 sisters: Betty Harper, Mildred Willams, Dr. Cherly Walker, Beverly Jackson, Rev. Joycelyn Camper, and Tonya Benjamin, 2 brothers: Drew Jackson, and Wayne Jackson, and 3 brothers in law, several nieces, nephews, cousins, god children and many friends. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She passed away at age of 63 after a brief battle with illness on December 6, 2022.
