David John Weiland, 68, of Algona formerly of Corwith and Wesley passed away August 22nd, 2021 at home. David grew up in Wesley, graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School in 1971 and married his high school sweetheart, Susan Reibsamen, in 1975. In 1980, they had one daughter, Candace Jayne. In 2003, he gained a son-in-law and friend, Paul Daniels. From this marriage, he got the best gifts…two grandchildren Monroe and Harrison. David loved to work and never sat down. In the early years, he owned a body shop called The Other Brothers with his brother Jon in Corwith. Later, he went to work at Winnebago and rework any mistakes made on the line (a perfect job for his attention to detail). A perfectionist in his work, for over three summers he meticulously painted his home, the 1886 Painted Lady Teahouse in Britt three different colors. He was a talented carpenter and worked under the premise you did things right…which led him to rebuild his treehouse at least four times. He was an American Picker decades before the show. In the early 80s, he came home with over 200 bicycles (imagine Susan’s response!) He could name a classic car’s make and model from a half a mile away, loved all old things, and could shine up a chrome bumper or hubcap like nobody’s business. He was ALWAYS tinkering on a classic car from his lovingly named “Stupidbaker” to his 1964 Corvair convertible. He loved his family, his friends, cribbage, cars, climbing trees and water towers, goofy hats, birds, fishing, golfing, feeding squirrels, creating metal flowers and hubcap clocks, and a cold Busch Light. As a testament to his love of helping others, one of his last wishes was to “find that guy in Spencer that rides the cool bike” and give him a set of 1970s handlebars he had collected throughout the years. In addition to aforementioned family (Susan, Candace, Paul, Monroe and Harry-Spencer), David is survived by three sisters; Pat Frayne (Clear Lake), Betty Erpelding (Craig-Algona), Judy Weber (Dave-Corwith), and step-brother Jeff Dangelser (Linda-Manson). Many other family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents Orville Weiland and Marilyn Pecoy, an only brother, Jon, and in-laws Robert and LaDonna Reibsamen.
