David Watson Shannon, 52, of Tunnelton passed away Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011, at Preston Memorial Hospital with family by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 2, 1958 in Tunnelton, son of Mabel G Wiles Shannon of Tunnelton and the late Gerald P Shannon. He was a 1976 graduate of Tunnelton High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his wife, his son David, and special nephew Hunter. They also had many special times together while working and riding dirt bikes. He was a coalminer for 33 years working at Whitetail mines and most recently employed by Consol Energy at Enlow Fork Mines in Pa. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnson Shannon; one son, David C Shannon; special live in nephew, Hunter Jackson; four brothers and spouses, Kennard and Ruth Shannon, Roger and Dawn Shannon, Rodney and Susan Shannon, all of Tunnelton, John and Karen Shannon of Grafton; two sisters, Juanita Woods, Margaret Wiles and husband Randy; mother-in-law, Shirley Johnson; sister-in-law, Linda Jackson, all of Tunnelton; brother-in-law, Randy and wife Jackie Messenger of Arthurdale; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many numerous close friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, William Thomas Johnson.
