David Ward Maners, 91, entered into his Lord’s presence on March 1, 2020 in Dallas, Texas at Windsor Senior Living.
Dave, as his friends called him, was born March 19, 1928 in Bloomington, Indiana to his parents, Ward Earl and Olive Pearl Maners. Dave, being the son of a preacher, first lived in Pleasant Lake, Indiana. Then at age 13, Dave and his family moved to Independence, Kentucky. He graduated from Simon Kent High in 1947 and proceeded to the Ohio Mechanics Institute for 2 years where he earned his associate degree. He then enrolled at the University of Kentucky where he majored in Chemistry.
Dave then received his Masters of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky in 1955. Fresh with his Masters, Dave moved to Houston, Texas, and began working as a Chemist at Shell Chemical. Dave attended South Main Baptist Church in Houston, where he met his bride, Bernice Lee Moore. The two of them were married March 14, 1959 and soon bought their first house and moved to Pasadena, Texas. It was in Pasadena where the two of them raised two boys, Barry and Jeff. Dave retired in 1989 and he and Bernice moved to Belton, Bernice’s hometown.
Those that know Dave, know him to be one of the nicest, friendliest, loving and easiest going man you would ever meet. Words like artistic, creative, crafty, hard-working, patient, funny, faithful and thrifty do well to describe him. He loved gardening, fishing, singing, traveling, helping others and spending time with his grandchildren. For periods in his life he loved painting, wood working, and singing in a barbershop quartet. He faithfully served God and his church all his life. For years he taught fourth grade Sunday School, served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons, and was always a faithful member of the church choir. He was a fine example of a servant and a Godly man to all.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Ward; his mother, Olive; and his brother, John.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Bernice; his brother, Virgil and wife Janet; his two sons, Barry and wife Dana and Jeff and wife Terrie; six grandchildren, Ethan and wife Kayla, Jillian, Adam, Gavan, Reese and Stefi.
