David Vincent Gumbleton, age 24, died tragically in an automobile accident in Wyoming on October 8, 2013. He was returning home to Kalamazoo after spending the season working for Signal Mountain Lodge in Jackson, WY. David was scheduled to go to Chengdu, China to be an English teacher at the end of October. David was born in Kalamazoo, MI on January 12, 1989, son of Timothy Gumbleton and Amy Nelson.
He graduated from Loy Norrix High School where he was Scholar Athlete, MVP and All-Conference in tennis and soccer. His Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University included foreign study in China. Dave was an outstanding athlete and loved challenging outdoor adventures. He is loved for his kindness and generosity. His smile and presence enlivened any room he entered.
He loved his family and loved life. Dave was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Harold Nelson and Gerrard Gumbleton, Sr. Surviving are his parents, Tim and Amy; three siblings, Matthew, Jacob, and Lynette; grandmothers, Marguerite Nelson and Marian Gumbleton. Dave was also very close to his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
