David Thomas, Jr., 94, of Fortville, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at his home.
He was born September 7, 1920 in Fortville to the late Boyd and Fannie Lee (Jarrett) Thomas Girt and was a 1939 graduate of Fortville High School. He was a deacon and elder at Fortville Christian Church and a member of the Fortville F&AM No.207. He retired from Delco-Remy in Anderson after 40 years service. Davey played semi-pro baseball for the Fortville team and was an all-around athlete. He especially enjoyed golf during his retirement. The Mt. Vernon Marauders have lost their #1 fan.
He is survived by daughters, Madelon (Kenny) Ward of McCordsville, Jo Ellen (Jerry) Winkler of Rushville, and Lynn Shaw of Fortville; five grandchildren: Trent Ward, Roy Ward, Lia Comp, Adam Winkler, and Wendy Shaw; and fourteen great-grandchildren: McKenzie Ward McCarthy, Casey Ward, Bryce Ward, Haleigh Comp, Elijah Comp, Reid Comp, Hudson Winkler, Hayden Winkler, Karstyn Ward, Royce Ward, McLayne Ward, Lindsey Galloway, Emily Richardson, and Ethan Richardson; and great-great-grandson Rylan Galloway.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Janie, in 2009, sister Joan Graham, and brothers Claude, John and Dale Thomas.
