Dave was born on July 25, 1951, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of George and Mary Ann (Rueschhoff) Thege. Because his father was in the US Air Force, Dave lived in Hawaii, England, and Georgia. The family settled in Norfolk after his fathers honorable discharge. Dave graduated from Norfolk Catholic in 1969.
He entered the US Army on November 28, 1969. Dave served two tours in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart, the Army Achievement Medal (first Oak Leaf Cluster) and the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster). He was an aircraft components repair supervisor. After serving for 23 years, David retired from the Army on September 30, 1992.
He returned to Norfolk to be close to his family.
Dave was a custodian at Norfolk Catholic until he had to retire due to health issues.
He is survived by his mother and his siblings: Barb and Todd Papstein, of Norfolk, Allen Thege, of Lincoln, Patty and Joe Klima, of Norfolk, Susie and Dan Sauers, of East Grand Forks, MN, and Dale Thege, of Lincoln; his nieces and nephews: Angela Papstein Haith, Tony Papstein, Amanda Masek, Alyssa Conyers, Marcus Klima, Eric Klima, Ryan Klima, Matt Sauers and Sarah Sauers; three great nephews and one great niece.
Dave was preceded in death by his father and infant brother Mark Anthony.
