Fayetteville, PA – David Starr Benton, 84, of Fayetteville, PA, formerly of Chester, NY, and long time resident of Saegertown, PA passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Doey’s Hospice House in Hagerstown, MD.
He was born on May 17, 1938, in Glen Cove, NY to the late Reginald Morris and Marion Jane (Starr) Benton.
David received an Associate’s Degree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Soley and received an honorable discharge in 1959.
David was employed by Erie Insurance in Erie, PA as a Senior Claims Insurance Investigator for 32 years covering the Crawford County Area until his retirement.
He was the former treasurer for the Pack 254 Cub Scout Troop in Saegertown. While living in Maine, he volunteered in driving people to doctor’s appointments and to the hospital. Also in Maine he served as a custodian for his residential neighborhood in overseeing community projects.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Theresa (Terri) Benton whom he married on April 2, 1960; son Mark Benton (Ellen); son Christopher Benton (Karen); Mark’s children grandsons Tyler Benton, Jacob Benton, and Gregory Benton; granddaughter Rachel Benton; Chris’s children granddaughter Claire Benton; grandson Andrew Benton.
He was predeceased by a son Theodore Benton and a sister Regina Benton.
A small ceremony was held by close family.
