David K. Smith
David K. Smith was born April 14, 1938 in rural Lucas County to Monte and Martha Ambelang Smith.
David passed away January 13, 2010 at Lucas County Health Center at the age of 71.
David attended country school in Lucas County and graduated from Chariton High School in 1956. He
Moved to Corta Lane, Idaho to work in a zinc plant right after graduation. He returned to Chariton a
year later.
David was united in marriage to Sheila Williams in February 1959. In this union four children were born:
Bruce, Bob, Shari, and Barry.
David married Sharon Shriver in 1978 and they farmed together North of Chariton.
David belonged to the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Chariton Jaycees.
He enjoyed watching his grandsons play football. He also enjoyed gardening and canning everything
from the garden. A lot of time was spent fishing and deer hunting with his family, good friends and neighbors. They enjoyed playing practical jokes on each other.
He also enjoyed raising Angus cattle and building fence.
David was preceded in death by his parents – Monte and Martha Smith, his brother – Burdette Smith,
and a grandson Joey Dean Smith.
He is survived by his children: Bruce and wife Bonnie; Shari Swarthout, Bob and wife Cindy, and Barry and wife Denise all of Chariton. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Curtis of Chariton, sister Ruth Argenta and husband Don of Moravia, and sister-in-law Connie Smith of Chariton. Also nine grandchildren: Curt Smyser (Stacy), T.J. Smyser (Kenna), Katie Smith, Brooke Bellon (Jeremy), Karcy Hall (Todd), Brandt Smith, Blake Smith, Cassedy Smith, and Cody Smith, and 7 great grandchildren. Also a special friend, Ruth Smith and her family.
