David Schoby, age 57, of Whittemore passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial will take place in East Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Seely-Walsh American Legion Post #425 of Whittemore. David Scott Schoby, the son of Fred William and Lorraine Marie (Adams) Schoby, was born on May 5, 1961 in Algona, Iowa. In 1980 he graduated from Newton High School in Newton, Kansas. David served in the United States Army from 1980–1995.
During his enlistment, David served in Desert Storm, was awarded many medals including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. David worked at Hormel in Algona. He enjoyed going to the shooting range and fishing. Left to cherish David’s memory are his children, Michael Schoby of Enterprise, KS, Jamie Schoby of Salina, KS, Terry (Kelly) Schoby of Leesville, LA and Ashley Schoby of Rockwell City; six grandchildren; mother, Lorraine Berg of Algona; brothers, James (Linda) Schoby of Algona, Bill (Beu) Schoby of Mason City, Steven (Han) Schoby of Clarksville, TN and Freddie (Mary) Schoby of Great Falls, MT; sisters, Diane Hinzman of Shodo, MT, Rebecca Schoby of Aurora, CO, Randi (Bret) O’Dell of Peabody, KS and Elizabeth (Larry) Jones of Osceola. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; a brother-in-law; two nephews; and an uncle.
