David S. Leighton, died Saturday, February 5, after a long courageous battle with Leukemia/Lymphoma,  at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, with his family by his side. He was 67.  He leaves his devoted wife of 39 years, Coleen A. (Borden) Leighton,  their daughter Meaghan Leighton and her partner Matthew Vandersluis, of Douglas, his mother Joyce (Strange) Leighton of Baldwinville, four brothers: Guy Leighton, of NH, his identical twin Dwight Leighton, of CT, Grover Leighton, of RI, and Paul Leighton, of FL, two sisters: Jeanne King, of Athol and Cindy Ward, of CA, and many nieces and nephews, including his godson Kevin Leighton, in CT.

David was born in Natick, June 21, 1954 and grew up in Wayland where he graduated from Wayland High School.  He lived in Marlborough before moving to Northbridge 32 years ago with his wife and daughter.  David spent his career as a short haul truck driver for various local companies; the longest with Pepsi Cola and most recently with Dana Transportation, in Upton, before retiring last Spring.

An avid vegetable gardener, since moving to Northbridge David kept a large plot at the Whitinsville Community Gardens.  He also enjoyed woodworking tinkering around the house, painting and electrical projects, jigsaw puzzles and chair caning.  He was known for his sarcastic humor and for being a jokester.
