David R. Schreiber, 71, died peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

David was born September 23, 1949, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Edgar and Kathryn (Gager) Schreiber.

On November 1, 1974, David married Sandra Means in New Harmony, Indiana. She survives along with two nieces, Julie (Clark) Walker, Tifton, Georgia, and Lyndsay (Bob) Stuffle, Evansville, Indiana; his brother-in-law, Rick (Julie) Means, Evansville, Indiana, a great-nephew, Bryson Walker, Tifton, Georgia, and a great-niece, Claire Walker, Tifton, Georgia; and his three cats, Lucie Grace, Bella and Moo. David was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Mark Schreiber.

David grew up in Evansville, Indiana. He graduated from Wabash College in 1971 where he was a member of the Phi Psi fraternity. After graduation he and a fraternity brother spent three months hitchhiking through Europe. Tales of his adventure entertained family and friends through the years.

David began his newspaper career as a reporter and editor for the Mt. Vernon (IN) Democrat. In 1978 he started working for the Elkhart Truth as a courts and crime reporter, and later as the business reporter. In 2000 he became a public relations specialist for TaigMarks Agency, Elkhart, until his retirement in 2011.

David enjoyed reading, IU basketball and watching Fox News. In his retirement years he started woodworking, creating furniture and art pieces that will always be treasured by his family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you for David’s care and support to Dr. James Jin and his wonderful staff, to all the nurses and staff of the Oncology Unit at Elkhart General Hospital and to the nurses, aides, social workers and staff of the Center for Hospice Care.
