David Nels Conklin, a native of St. Johns and resident of DeWitt, Michigan, died on March 11, 2024 at the age of 89. Born in St. Johns on May 1, 1934, David was raised by his parents Delbert and Leona (Brandt) Conklin and his step-mother, Olive Conklin. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Johns High School where he was a part of the schools undefeated football team that was honored by the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame. On June 19, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Boron, in the First United Methodist Church in St. Johns.Born with the dream of becoming a farmer, David began his journey working on dairy farms, and over time, realized his dream by starting his own dairy farm in DeWitt. His farm, a testament to his hard work and dedication, became a place of comfort and joy for him. He was always eager to learn new methods of caring for the land and served on the board of the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts for many years. Upon retirement, David continued his love for the farming community by working as a salesman for Purina Mills, a job which allowed him to stay connected with cows and his farmer friends throughout Mid-Michigan.Renowned for his love for people and the community, David was a beacon of encouragement and goodwill.
