David M. Vermeulen, 78, passed away Friday July 31, 2015 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin.

David was born July 8, 1937 in Connersville, Indiana to Alfred J. and Mary E. ( Bray) Vermeulen. He graduated from Connersville High School in 1955.

David was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a machinist’s mate on the USS Gearing.He was married to the late Linda (Maze) Vermeulen for 51 years.David was employed by the Indiana State Police for 26 years as a road trooper then as a  sergeant and operations specialist. During that time, he served two Indiana governors as driver and bodyguard. Upon retirement from the State Police in 1992, he became a bailiff for the Indiana Court of Appeals, completing 43 years of service with the State of Indiana.He enjoyed his work and was proud to serve his state and community as a police officer.

Survivors include four children, John Vermeulen of Indianapolis, Eric (Andrea) Vermeulen of Brownsburg, Brian (Rebecca) Vermeulen of California and Aaron (Brandy) Vermeulen of Whiteland, two sisters, Dolores (William) Stone of Florida and Joan Scott of Connersville, brother, James Vermeulen of Connersville and seven grandchildren, Mali, Jake, Kali, Griffin, Riley, Ellie and Owen Vermeulen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda M. Vermeulen.
