David M. “Dee” Andrzejewski, 66, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in his home, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on September 20, 1955 to Bert W. and Mary C. (Bartkowiak) Andrzejewski in South Bend, Indiana, and was a lifelong area resident. He was preceded in death by his father, Bert on March 26, 2001.
David graduated in 1974 from LaSalle High School in South Bend, Indiana.
He retired on October 31, 2016 from Shambaugh & Son L.P. in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he worked as a Foreman Sprinkler Fitter in Fire Protection for 28 years. He was a proud member of the Sprinkler Fitter’s U.A. Local 669.
On March 17, 2006, he married Cynthia J. “Cyndi” Sopczynski on the bridge at Seitz Park in South Bend, Indiana. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Cyndi Andrzejewski of South Bend, IN; his mother, Mary C. “Kay” Andrzejewski of South Bend, IN; three daughters, April (Adam) Kovacs of Columbia, SC (formerly of South Bend); Olivia Shrock of South Bend, IN; Halley (Tyler) Thode of Beaufort, SC (formerly of South Bend); three sons, Adam (Amanda O’Connor) Andrzejewski of Louisville, KY (formerly of South Bend); Adam (Mary) Hertel of South Bend, IN; Andrew (Maeve) Hertel of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren, Alyssa Winston; Rylen and Asher Thode; Emmett, Baylor, and Sawyer Andrzejewski; and Bauer Kovacs; one great grandchild, Braxton Winston of South Bend, IN; one sister, Janice (Malcolm) Theobald of Evergreen, CO; and two brothers, Dennis (Diana) Andrzejewski of South Bend, IN; and Thomas (Jeanice) Andrzejewski of Mishawaka, IN.
Dave, Dee, Deeter, Dad, Dzia Dzia, Brother, The Captain, Davey Gravy, Dobs, Pops, Honey, Handyman, Helper Guy with the best lawn in the neighborhood, but most notable- Beloved Follower of Jesus Christ his Savior.
David was a member of Final Word Ministries in South Bend, IN. He enjoyed many years of riding around with the wind in his hair on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, having a good time with family and friends, working with his wife to create their own little backyard paradise, and going to the beaches to play in the water of Lake Michigan. His passion was smoking ribs in the backyard, which led to a three-year adventure opening and running Dee’s Backyard Barbecue.
His family would like to extend their sincere love and gratitude to Amanda Milner, founder of Fair Haven at Ada’s place, along with Trish Bishop, Kia Harrow, Emily Alfs, Lisa Farr, and Kathy Boyer. A special thank you to Dr. Anna Roshal, MD (Medical Oncologist) and her staff at Joe and Kelly Schwartz Cancer Center in Carmel, IN; Dr. Mark Langer, MD (Radiation Oncologist) and his staff at IU Health Indianapolis, IN. The family would also like to thank Pastors Steven and Barbara Coyle for their constant vigil, as well as the entire Final Word Ministries family for their outpouring of love and support during David’s battle. To the best neighbors in the world, Willie Jr. and Jolene Coates, a deep heartfelt thank you for keeping a close eye on David and being there whenever we needed your help. Your love and prayers carried us.
