Mr. David Lynwood Hurst, 74, of Valley, Ala. passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala. Mr. Hurst was born August 27, 1943 in Lafayette, Ala. to the late Denson and Maudie Hurst. He was the youngest of four boys.
Mr. Hurst graduated from Lafayette High School and later obtained an associate’s degree. He worked as a manager for West Point Pepperell where he retired.
He was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church in Valley, Ala. He was a devoted servant of the Lord and enjoyed spending time with his wife, grandchildren, and great-grandbaby. He could be found on many sunny days out working in his yard, as long as it wasn’t an Alabama football game day. He and his wife just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this January.
Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his son, David Scott Hurst, and brothers, Melvin and Leon Hurst.
He leaves behind his wife, Julia Lee Barnett Hurst; a daughter, Vicky (Darryl) Strickland; two grandchildren, Kayla (Cory) Strickland Peavy, David Strickland; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Julia Peavy; a brother, Venson (Wilma) Hurst; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
