David Leroy Jermier, 68, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021.

David was born January 14th, 1953, in Cedar Falls, IA to James and Bonnie Jermier. He graduated from BGM high school in Brooklyn, IA in 1971, where he was active in the school theatre productions and met the love of his life, Brenda. David went on to graduate from Iowa State with a business degree in 1975. At age 21, David started his job at HyVee, where he was a dedicated employee for 43 years until his retirement in 2016.

After graduation, Dave and Brenda lived in Minnesota for a short time before moving to Grimes, IA in 1978, where he was an active member in the community. David was a leader, Scout Master, and trainer for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Grimes. He volunteered much of his time in the Grimes community by coaching youth softball, baseball, and soccer. David was a supportive father and could always be found at his children’s activities. They later moved to Dallas Center, Iowa in 1998.

In his later years, David enjoyed spending time outdoors with his wife and friends. Together they enjoyed camping, kayaking, and canoeing. Dave and Brenda loved traveling, especially to Colorado to visit their kids and grandkids. Some of Dave’s favorite memories were from a trip to Disney in 2019 with the whole family. During his retirement years, he loved a good nap and watching westerns with his cat, Buddy curled up on his lap!

David loved attending his grandchildren’s activities. You could find him supporting from the sidelines, rain or shine, at as many activities as he could make. He was well-known and loved not only by his grandkids, but by their friends and their families. David’s grandchildren will cherish these memories as well as Grandpa’s jokes and teasing.

David was an Iowa State Cyclone through and through. His dedication stems back to his father’s time as a professor there. He and his brother both graduated from Iowa State and two of his grandchildren will graduate as Cyclones as well. He loved attending Iowa State football games, doing so up until his final days.

David’s family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with his son, Chris, most likely playing catch with a baseball and talking sports strategy.

David is survived by his wife, Brenda Jermier, son, Matthew (Katie) Jermier of Waukee, IA, daughter, Julie (Christopher) Watson of Littleton, CO; daughter-in-law, Cali (Aaron Ginkens) Jermier of Grimes, IA; eight grandchildren, Bryce Jermier, Ellie Jermier, Macey Jermier, Kale Jermier, Madden Jermier, Tyson Watson, Jalen Watson, and Quentin Watson; his brother, Stevan Jermier of Dallas Center, IA, AFS brothers, Robert Jansson of Sweden and Eliatan Machado of Brazil, sister-in-law, Becky (Richard) Hammer and brother-in-law, Keith (Kelly) Little. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Chris Jermier and his in-laws, Robert and Miriam Little.
