David Lee Parker passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023. His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, along with his sister Judy were with him, as he departed to his eternal resting place.
David was born on April 22, 1943 to Sedgwick Pomeroy Parker and Ruth Marion Hessler in Moline, Illinois. He spent most of his youth in Rootstown, a ’61 graduate of Rootstown Schools. He then received his Bachelor’s degree from Kent State in 1967, with a German major and Russian minor. After working one year on his Masters at Ohio State, he then traveled to Quickborn Germany to instruct high school students. Upon returning, he had other teaching assignments in Northeast Ohio, but really blossomed in his ensuing years in translation work. Specifically, he translated US serviceman’s
German medical reports which required English translation for US insurance companies.
Since 1979 he resided in the Highland Square section of Akron, Ohio with his wife Grace, of 30 years (deceased in 2009). Their years together included her sewing students, her home cooked meals, David’s translating work, and their joint involvement with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
An honest and sincere man, David was pretty quiet, but a good listener. Equal to his love of reading German and Russian novels, was his love of classical music. He not only shared that love, but helped the family also come to see the joy he found in it.
David is survived by siblings: sister Judith E. Spitale (Joe, deceased 2021) of Canal Fulton, brother John C. of Hiram (wife Jane), brother Jeff S. of Post Falls, ID, and brother Michael C. (MaryAnne) of Stockton, CA.
