David Lanning, age 66, of Algona, Iowa died on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at his home. David Edward Lanning, the son of Bruce and Marian (Bliss) Lanning, was born on September 13, 1948 in Dakota City, Iowa. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1967 and later received an Associates Degree from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
On June 18, 1983 David was united in marriage with Lois Sue Downing at the United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. He owned and operated Lanning Plumbing & Heating in Alden until his retirement. David enjoyed being a musician in the band Memory Lane. He also enjoyed RC airplanes and ultra lite airplanes.
Left to cherish David’s memory is his wife of 31 years, Sue; two daughters, Dawn Zeman and her husband Matt of Spirit Lake and Melissa Simpson of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; a step-daughter, Mindi Schultz and her husband Dave of Algona; two step-sons, Andy Hoover and his wife Brandy of Whittemore and Troy Peterson and his wife Lisa of Mason City; 14 grandchildren; father Bruce Lanning of Alden; a sister, Marcia Bates and her husband Ron of Alden and Denny Lanning and his wife Chris of Cripple Creek, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.
