David Lloyd Nicholson, Sr. 1934-2015
In loving memory we announce that David Lloyd Nicholson, Sr., passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2015, at the age of 81. David was born in Orlando, Florida, January 16, 1934, the son of Carlton Lloyd Nicholson and Mildred Allen Nicholson Horne. He grew up in Orlando and graduated from Boone High School. In 1952 David was in the ROTC and attended Duke University, NC, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi at Duke and belonged to Sigma Chi Fraternity. David attended graduate school in California at UCLA earning his Masters in Engineering.

David is survived by his loving wife Susan Nicholson of 29 wonderful years, his son David Nicholson, Jr., (Kristen) grandsons Ian Nicholson and Kai Nicholson Worthville, KY; daughter Monique Saunders (Robert) grandchildren Nicholas and Rachel, Windermere, FL. He is also survived by grandson David Nicholson III (Amanda) and great-grandchildren Gavin and Devan , nephew Don Williams of Sorrento, FL, great-nephews Donald Jr., and Clay; niece Elizabeth Smith (Ted) Washington, Georgia, and their children Samantha, Amanda, Teddy. North Carolina is home to many members of David’s extended family.
David made his home in Orlando and while there, he was president of Falcon Aviation Corporation, a general aviation airport in 1969 (currently known as Herndon Airport.) The majority of his life has been inspired by his interest in aviation. He loved flying and was a private pilot. Fellow members of the model airplane community remember him as one of the originals, flying his radio-controlled airplanes across Central Florida. After graduate school he worked for White Sands Nuclear Power Plant in New Mexico as an engineer. David continued his career at the Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida, as an engineer developing missile parts for space shuttles and defensive aircraft in the 1950s.
