David Karl Winger

January 3, 1945 – July 9, 2022

On July 9th, 2022, David peacefully left his earthly home surrounded by his family. He was born in Farragut, Idaho on January 3rd,1945 to Annie Lorraine Anderson and Ira Vernon Winger. He was raised in Roy, Utah with his two brothers and four sisters.

David graduated from Weber High School and then went on to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Texas. David was a faithful member and humbly served in various church callings from priesthood leadership, young men’s president and in two Bishoprics. He later served a second mission in Tacoma, Washington with his wife, Susan. He honorably served in the US Coast Guard Reserve and worked for over 40 years at Hill Air Force Base for the US Department of Defense.

David married the love of his life, Susan Mae Jolley, on March 4, 1967 and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they have created a wonderful legacy. They had eight children, K. Dave (Sheila), Daniel (Kathy), Dennis (Angie), Sharla (Jason), Agusta (Brian), Amy (Elvin), Annie, Amanda (Chad), 35 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and numerous “adopted” children they collected throughout their marriage.

David was known for his sense of humor, generosity, unconditional love and dedication to serving others. David enjoyed serving his friends, neighbors and many ward members. David was an avid gardener, hunter and camper and especially enjoyed sharing his hobbies with his family and friends. David’s family was his greatest joy; he loved having a house full of people and laughter – everyone was welcomed at his table. We could always count on David having a witty remark or a dad joke to make us laugh. His love was undeniable and he never hesitated to help those in need.

David is survived by his loving wife, Susan, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Kent (Graciela) and sisters, Margaret (Charles), Diane (Scott), Kathy, Becky (Kay), Shelley and in-laws; Lucetta, Stephen (Kathy), Diane (Tom), Terry and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many that consider him a second father.

He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel; grandson, Brandon; great grandson, Trapper; parents, Lorraine & Ira; brother, Mark, brother in-law, John Spader and in-laws, Arcola & Gideon.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Darin Checketts, Fresenius Kidney Care & Intermountain Hospice.
