David J. Carter of Columbia, MD died June 19, 2017 at Gilchrist Hospice following a cardiac arrest while running, a favorite activity. Dave is survived by his wife Mary, his stepmother Elizabeth, his stepbrothers Robert Drosd (Caroline) and Roger Drosd (Laurel), and several close cousins. He earned an engineering degree from Purdue University in 1967 and was employed by Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory for 36 years. Dave was known for his outstanding contributions and leadership in the area of Weapon System test and evaluation. His experiences as a project manager included planning, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on the Army’s Pershing Weapon System, the Air Force’s Ground Launched Cruise, and the Navy’s Tomahawk. He retired in 2008 and was an active volunteer for Columbia’s Meals on Wheels and Neighbor Ride. He was an avid skier, traveler, runner, and home maintenance engineer.
