Mr. David J. McCoy of Holly, CO died in his home on May 26, 2019. He was 80 years old.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (Seibel) McCoy and his brothers Don (Carol) McCoy of Kirksville, MO, D. Michael (Jo Ann) McCoy of Pueblo, CO, J. Patrick (Elizabeth) of Denver, Co, son Cameron (Jon Peck) McCoy and daughter Marcy McCoy. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends in western KS and southern Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Vivian McCoy and his in-laws, Luther and Maxine Seibel of Leoti, KS and his brother-in-law Monte Seibel.
David was born on January 6, 1939 in Clearwater, KS. He attended multiple schools in western Kansas and met his wife Carol while attending Wichita County High School before graduating from Dodge City High School in 1958. He obtained two degrees at SCSC in Pueblo, CO.
Dave’s father passed away in 1955. In 1961, his mother passed away while Dave was in the process of joining the Army Reserve. The Army released him so he could help care for his two younger brothers who were still teenagers.
Dave was in law enforcement his entire life. He began his career as a deputy sheriff of Dodge City, KS (Ford County) and retired as Sheriff of Hodgeman County, KS. After retiring, Dave & Carol moved to Holly, CO so Carol could teach a few more years before retiring.
When Dave married Carol, they moved to Pueblo, CO to begin his career as Special Agent for the AT&SF Railway. His younger brother Pat moved to Pueblo with them and graduated from PCHS. A couple years after his graduation, Dave & Carol adopted two kids, Cameron and Marcy.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Dave was district chairman for his union, The Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks. He was also very active in his community. He was President of the Southern Colorado Law Enforcement Association, had of love of anything related to street rods and drag racing and was President of Pueblo Motor Sports (PMI). He was very active and served on the board of his church, Holly Baptist. Last, but not least, he always had a special place in his heart for his many many dogs.
