Obituary of David J. Friske

Friske, David Joseph, of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. He was 89 years old. David J. Friske was born on March 27, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John Byrd and Wanda Mable (Wojda) Friske. He married Elinor (Reinert) on November 10, 1945 in Saginaw; she preceded him in death on June 10, 1991. He had been employed by Jasinski Builders for 24 years, and prior to that, he was a carpenter and a tool grinder; he retired in 1985. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 25 Union and the Catholic church. In his spare time, he played the fiddle and the accordion, was a regular attendee at events featuring blugrass, French-Canadian or Cajun music, and was a skilled dancer. Surviving are three children, Donna (Ronald) Godo of St. Charles, Raymond (Diana) Friske of Vassar, and Cheryl “Cheri” Friske and Greg Sochocki of Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Raymond Clifford (Jessica) Friske, Jesse Friske, Jamie Sochocki, Christine Ely, and Michelle (Robert) Westphal; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; siblings, Claude Friske, Ernie (Germaine) Friske, William (Mary) Friske, Delores (Bill) Gardyfzewski, Leonard (Mary) Friske, Lucille Beyer, Rita (Leon) DuBay, Patricia (Tony) Gronski, and Louie (Pam) Friske; and caregiver and family friend, Marcos DeShone. He was preceded in death by brother, Raymond Edward Friske (1951); mother, Wanda Mable Friske (1976); father, John Byrd Friske (1982); wife of 45 years, Elinor Julia Friske (1991); sister, Lorraine Haskins (2009); sister, Barbara Kersten (2011); and companion, Audrey Welch (2009).
